Party size / quick answer
How many players can play Machine Party?
The launch-build answer is two to four players overall. Four is the confirmed online ceiling; the separate local controller limit is still waiting for the announced couch co-op update.
Machine Party is documented as a 2–4 player game. That confirms the supported overall session range, but it does not yet prove that four people can share one PC through local co-op.
Player limits at a glance
Use the online number for a room you can play today. Treat local and modded counts as unconfirmed until official notes say otherwise.
| Mode | Maximum | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Online private room | 4 players | The launch materials describe a 2–4 player session. |
| Native local / couch co-op | Not documented | Local co-op was announced for a late-August update; same-PC controller count is not published. |
| Community mods | No supported expansion | No official mod or player-count extension is documented. Unofficial tools may break saves, networking, or anti-cheat expectations. |
Online
How many people can join a room?
Plan for two to four players in a private online room. If a fifth friend wants to watch, use voice chat or a stream rather than assuming the lobby accepts another player. The multiplayer guide explains room IDs and Steam invites.
Local play
Is four-player couch co-op confirmed?
No. The game has a late-August local co-op target, but the final local player and controller limit has not been documented. Do not read “2–4 players” as a guarantee of four people on one PC, and check the patch notes before buying extra controllers for a couch session. See the local co-op and split-screen guide for the current checklist.
Mods
Can a mod add more players?
There is no supported mod that expands the player cap. A community experiment may exist later, but an unofficial player-count patch would need to change lobby, networking, and minigame logic together. Until the developers document a supported extension, treat any “8-player” claim as unverified and avoid using it in a live account or save.
Player counts are based on the official Steam listing and launch-build multiplayer documentation. Local co-op and mod support are time-sensitive; this page will be revised when official details change.
